| Well I don't know anything about the coast guard but i have had to deal with the navy and the air force. The navy is full of a bunch of retards that don't really show any motivation or respect for basically anyone and there fucking lazy, i'm in norfolk right now on a navy base that has the same helo's that i work on and i watched 5 ppl take 2 days to change a part that I could do by myself in 2 hrs. The air force is basically for pussies, when i was in pensacola florida for one of my schools there was also air force personnel there for school and i don't remember how many times a day i would see one of them cross the street when a marine was walking towards them and I saw many of them cry and throw fits when there instructors would yell at them ( I giggled everytime i saw this). From what I have seen rescue swimmers are cool i had a couple in my class in pensacola. I'm still partial to the marines b/c that's all i really know, I don't regret my decision to join at all and i'm reenlisting in october. Boot camp wasn't as bad as people say, if anyone says that it sucks and it's the worst thing they have ever done then they are fucking pussies that couldn't keep up, the only time i ever really got fucked up by my drill instructors was when i fucked up doing drill. Hope this helps, any other questions just give me a holla. | |

| thanks man yeah i still havent decided, most military people i've talked to DONT regret enlisting which made me even more eager to join, but thats how i am if i hear ppl have good experiences im all for it, i know its hard work, but i've never been afraid of that. basically why i want to join is to do something with my life (think i said that already) and i dont wanna spend 8 yrs in school so another question i've got is every military branch is 8 yrs right? its like 4 years active 4 years inactive right? somethin like that. well what do you have to do to just have a steady career after those years do you have to reenlist? and if you do, do you get deployed again? did you have to go to iraq? im just curious as to how did that go? lol sorry for all the questions, i've yet to ask my cousin and his bro how their experience has been so far. all in all im pretty stoked.
LOL pubbin, one reason i would pick the marines over the other branches is because they are the top dogs lol they do get teh chicks and it would be an honor to call yourself a marine. my football coach had a huge tat on his back just sayin MARINES and he was a bad ass nobody even thought of fuckin with him lol

| I'm joining the Air national guard to be an aviation engineer. I'm not motivated enough to go all out, but I'd like the training, plus I want to go to school at the same time. No college tuition to pay, the GI bill, signing bonus'. Where do I sign? | |

| the term depends on whether you go ground side or if you go airwing, my first enlistment is 5 yrs active and 3 yrs inactive b/c my school was a year long b/c i went airwing. Yes if you want to make it a career you have to reenlist at the end of each term, my next term is only 4 yrs b/c i dont have to go to school again and i get to pick where i want to go. I haven't been deployed yet b/c i'm in a squadron that does not get deployed, i'm at HMX-1 which is the presidential helicoptor squadron meaning we fly the president around along with the vice president and alot of other higher ups like that. The next squadron i go to i will deploy though, i'm hoping to go to mirimar, CA i can't stand the fucking cold weather of VA anymore. Yes pubbin we get mad respect from everyone, like the base i'm at right now in norfolk is all navy and they will do anything we tell them to do. | |

| Ranger i was actually lookin into the army rangers but the fact that i couldnt call myself a marine stopped me lol but sharky thats fuckin tight how do you get a job where you fly the pres around?! lol i might just go be a grunt lol seeing how i know nothing about mechanics and all that shit, i can however shoot a gun but yea bong thats one reason i wanna go military is for the GI bill that way i wont have to worry about goin broke. and sharky do the marines get a signing bonus? i didnt think they did well my cousin didnt lol but he doesnt care, and neither do i its just a sweet perk, anyways im gettin to excited lol | |

| You don't need any mechanical background to do airwing I had none when I joined and now i basically run the maintanance in my shop for the helo's i work on. There is a couple jobs that have signing bonuses but not many, most jobs have reenlistment bonuses though and mine right now is at 24,500. To get into the presidential helo squadron you have to go through a prescreening to see if your eligible for a security clearance like the one i have. When you start out at hmx we get a top secret clearance and once the fbi is done doing a single scope background check youget a yankee white security clearance which is about the same as what the secret service get, but you have to have a clean backround with no police involvement or anything like that. If airwing is something your looking in to tell a recruiter you want airwing and DO NOT GO FOR V-22 there fucking pieces of shit the CH-53E is the best helo in my opinion. | |

| k i'll keep that in mind cause that sounds fun as shit, yeah so is that why you went to school for a year?? maybe i'll do that then, i havent had really any trouble with the police so i should be fine, idk we'll see and yea if your bonus is 24g's thats basically what the national guard gives (or used to i think it went down) so either way theres a bonus lol anyways so i just say i wanna go airwing and they'll get me goin? when you do go to iraq or afghanistan what would be your duty there? still fixing the helos and whatnot? anyways my friend graduates here in may so we might sign up around then. where are you stationed at sharky? are you at a base? or do you live near one? | |

| Yea my first school was in pensacola, FL for basic aircraft naintanance which is the basic school for all of the airwing, after i graduated there i went to new river, NC for the school on the actual aircraft i work on now. You have to make sure that if you tell them you want to be in theairwing that they put it on paper that that's what your gonna get. When i do deploy to iraqi'm going to do the same thing im doing now just fixing helo's. I'm stationed at Quantico, VA which is the headquarters of the marine corps. | |

| Well as far as boot camp goes if your east of the mississippi river you go to paris island, SC. For me i went to boot camp in san diego from march to june of 2005 and it was great, the only time the weather sucked was when we were at the rifle range it rained like a mother fucker the day before we had to qualify. I am married and i lived outside of base for the first year that i was married but i got sick of the traffic on the way to and from base 95 fucking sucks at 5 in the afternoon so we moved into base housing which is great, i dont pay for rent, electricity, water or anything and my drive to and from work is like 5 min. | |

| (i think i deleted my last post lol) anyways... SO basically the money you make does NOT go to bills which is fine with me lol thats awesome, currently im in UT so think i'll go to SD? not that it matters so how long will you be in iraq for when you do get deployed? are you excited? i think it'd be a kick ass adventure lol my cousins came back from iraq and they said that at times it was scary but they'd do it again...and i think they are well at least one of them is lol he actually had a sweet sounding job if i remember right he told the howitzers (? bad spelling lol) where to shoot lol that sounded sweet but do you have to get a certain score on the ASVAB to go airwing? or what are the requirements to go airwing or ground side? | |

| I'm not military, I may be eventually, but I'm not yet....but I digress: The Coast Guard is flush right now, for instance the base near my house is authorized to recruit 34 more people, they have no extra money to do so, and more than 500 applicants since the New Year. They've got the luxury of being very selective and have a very wide range of options available. Their training also translates very well since they get land and sea together, their OCS is great too.
They're also not going into combat.

| Yea you would go to san diego. I don't know how long i would be in iraq, i think right now it's 6 months b/c one of my buddies is over there right now for his first deployment and he said he's supposed to be there for 6 months. The score you need to be in the groundside is like 34 or something like that and the airwing is i think a 50, but to get into mechanics like mine you need a high gt score, I got a 124 for my gt.Ican't wait to go to iraq b/c all the money i make while im over there is tax free. to go off what pem said the marines are more in depth with there training, a buddy of mine went to the coast guard and he regreted it b/c he said he didn't learn shit in school. With the security clearance i have right now I have a choice to do what i want when i do get out b/c alot of companies that need security clearances would rather pay for the traing to teach me what i need to know than pay for someone who doesn't have a clearance to get one, for example it costs $70,000 to get a single scope investigation done on someone but to renew it is only $10,000. One guy i used to work with here got out and got a job up in washington DC doing internet security or some shit like that making $134,000 a year starting out. | |

| wow when do you take the gt? is that optional? i've never heard of it, do you have any buddys on ground side with some kick ass jobs? i dont know what all you can do i guess i just need to take the ASVAB to find out lol also you say theres airwing and ground side what about anything to do with water? ( big time scuba diver, love the water ) or is that just a part of ground side, or do you gotta go to the navy for it? | |

| My friends step-dad is a retired Navy SEAL and now SEAL trainer. He is the scariest man I've ever come in contact with. He's done multiple tours in Iraq and everywhere under the fucking sun. He's told us stories of how him and his buddies used to cut out the eyes of the people they killed for trophies. I think he could kill me with one of his toes. Anyway, he said that Paris Island is a huge shit-hole. Maybe he was referring to the fact that it's basically a swamp, I don't know. | |

| Yea paris island is a shit hole but being in utah you would go to san diego. The seals are no fucking joke, there the only ones in the navy i give respect to. The gt score is one of three scores you get from taking the asvab, they take the 3 scores you get and divide by some number i can't remember and thats the score you get from the asvab. The only job i can think of that would deal with the water is recon but all they do is collect intel. Most of my buddies that went groundside and are now in the airwing said they like the airwing better than groundside and a couple friends that joined the same time as me and went groundside and all of them said they can't wait to get out of the marines, but that's just my opinion b/c all i know is the airwing side. The military is what you make it, it could be great for you or you could fucking hate it.

| For real Bob....Seals are scary as fuck. A friend of mine's father is a retired Seal, and I was helping his family move in one day and had a rather unsettling experience. I was a junior in High school, on the Crew team and in GREAT shape...there were 3 of us from the varsity boat and we couldn't move this dresser: 5 minutes later we see the ex-Seal carry that dresser down a flight of stairs and up 2 flights. Turns out EVERY drawer on that motherfucker was full of BOOKS. Encyclopedias and poetry by the Kilo....Moral of the story: don't fuck with the Seals, and they are, in the words of Al Gore, "Super serial." | |
