PS3 Jailbreak

Dunno if anybody else has been keeping up with the news, but the PS3 has been broken... again xD
Best news is that its a simple firmware update... no hardware hacks required.

Long and short of it... I just "backed up" my friends copy of Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare to my external... and am playing it on my PS3 without the disc

Jailbreaking your PS3 currently allows you to:

Load emulators for NES, SNES, GENESIS, etc (allowing you to play roms)
Fully backup games to externals or internal (allowing you to run them without the disc)
Load custom packages that unlock new features to your ps3 (file managers, games, etc)

This works currently with the 3.55 OFW

Right well that would be why you run offline when messing about with such things. I'm not much of an online multiplayer guy when it comes to consoles (prefer PC) so PSN is not really something I'm playing with.

This is basically what is already done with the 360. Except for the playing off harddrive thing, I don't know if that can be done. But hackers of the 360 have long found a way to play game copies online. I'm sure PS3 hackers can do the same eventually. But you're right, if you're caught, you're fucked. Just like any 360 owners who get caught. Once you're caught on the 360, they ban your xbox live account which basically makes your system unable to play online ever again.

With ps3 and 360, jailbreaking is more of a hassle.
The shit you get , like smiley said, and the stuff that will mostly likely go wrong, eventually.
Only console that is widely ignored is the wii, lol.
Unpopular console is good.
